I've been a lurker for a number of years and have very much
appreciated following some of the Thyroid discussions.
Just a thought but it would be useful for the thyroid cancer
people, if you could add some more to our FAQ regarding RAI.
Would it be possible to point out that although there are many
doubts regarding the outcomes from the use of RAI, those of us
with thyroid cancer, while not exactly embracing the notion of
having what's left of our thyroid (post-Thyroidectomy) zapped,
we often don't seem to have much choice.
I'm not even sure if this is still true but I was told 4 years
ago that while the surgeon had taken out my thyroid and some
of the effected lymph nodes, the RAI still had two benefits.
The first was that by having RAI I would have less chance of
having remnant tissue become cancerous, and the second was
that it made the thyroglobulin test more accurate for
predicting/spotting the re-growth of thyroid tissue and
therefore alert the Dr/s of the possibility of the thyroid
cancer re-occurring.
