It suppresses thyroid function.  There are those on the list who say their
nutrition plan includes soy.  Others tell you to avoid whenever possible.  It
would be really bad to give to children who are growing as that is the most
important time for their thyroid to be functioning properly.  That is, a
hypothryoid child has the world against him.

It's also hard to avoid soy since Crisco oil and shortening are soy products
many items you find in the store including  potato chips, donuts, bread, and
almost any other thing you find have if nothing else, soybean oil listed as
an ingredient.  Coconut Oil on the other hand, was used for centuries and is
known to speed up the metabolism and not really be a bad fat.

If you feel healthy on the meat, why switch?  If you don't then at least you
might consider changing but there's a lot of evidence against soy as being
good or beneficial, and growing children don't need the risk.  A whole diet
with real fruit, meat, vegetables is good for you, you're not missing
anything essential by leaving out soy.
