Cures are better than supplementation. If you have a nutrition problem, and
that's the reason for thyroid problems, then it is better to fix that.
However, if you eat well I doubt that is your whole problem. Real food is
better than vitamins. For selenium some good sources include baked potatoes,
sunflower seeds, beef, chicken, eggs, pork loin, and you don't eat these
things? Too much selenium may be bad for you.
Some good sources of zinc include some cereals, oysters, crab, turkey,
sunflower seeds, spinach, cashews and yougurt. Not as godd of a list, but do
you eat these? There's probably a longer list of sources too, again, too
much may be bad.
I've wondered if my daughter's thyroid problem is partially from malnutrition
because she hardly eats. I know you also need Vitamin A for good thyroid
function in addition to the other minerals mentioned, but I doubt that if
anyone eating a healthy diet is likely to be hypothyroid because of poor
nutrition. Vitamins found in food are much better than supplements because
they natually have the complementary vitamins / enzymes that go together.
Doesn't mean supplements aren't good too, but the vitamins and minerals from
whole foods are much better.
