Hi Julie
I agree with Dan: there are lots of reasons it might be preferable for
people to use their own bank's services:
--Your job is not to teach any one interface. Your job I would say more
accurately is to teach people how to deal with the interfaces they have
to deal with including privacy measures such as turning off the screen
or other measures to safeguard their privacy. In fact, if I were
teaching navigation skills, I might just pick some sites I know use
different features or pose different problems, teach those and make the
students use those skills to figure out sites they need to use.
--I personally do not care about being dependent on MS Money and
Quicken.
--Making their site accessible is part of the bank's responsibility.
Systemic advocacy to make that happen is sometimes a necessary reality,
but that is a different problem. In general, I think many banks have a
specialized part of customer service that can also help with
accessibility questions.
--I bank at US Bank and have been really happy with their online
billpay service.

Well, I am looking for a way to train clients to do online banking
without
having to go into their actual bank website. If there is one interface
I
could teach people to use (no matter who they bank with), that would
require
less training/lesson planning on my end (otherwise I would have to
figure
out if the bank site is accessible with JAWS, then teach one person to
navigate on the Bank of America site, another to navigate on the
Wachovia
site, and so on). It would also keep me from having to see their
private
banking information, which is uncomfortable for some people (and, of
course,
we want to reduce our liability as an agency).

Julie,
Have you tried seeing if your bank offers bill pay? My bank, National
City, soon to be PNC, has online bill paying. I can write a check to
anyone, including individuals. If the bank can't do a wire transfer,
like
they can for my credit cards and some of my utilities, they will cut a
paper check and mail it. I write out almost no checks myself anymore.
The service is free and actually saves me money because I don't have to
pay for stamps, envelopes, or checks as much any more.
The system is 100% accessible and quite easy to use.
