Hi Phil,
That reminds me that tomorrow, December 26, was the date of issue on
my novice ticket back in 1956. Tomorrow I will have been licensed
for 53 years. Of course, I bootlegged a couple of months before my
ticket arrived. We were in Alaska at the time and it took the FCC
six months to get my ticket to me. I was just 16 years old and
couldn't wait any longer. I bootlegged a friend's call who was off
on a weather flight and wouldn't you know it, a friend of his gave me
a call. The next radio club meeting he mentioned to my friend that
he had enjoyed their QSO, whereupon my friend mentioned he was off on
a flight. They turned and looked at me. I was pretty embarrassed
and was ham celebate for the next couple of months till my ticket arrived.
