You can buy higher gain antennas for some routers and wireless cards. 
Be sure you have the right connecter.  Some newer routers don't have 
detachable antennas though.  I'd try one on the card, if your card has 
one.  It should unscrew.  You can buy one that just screws right on the 
card, or one with a magmount and 3 or 4 feet of cable that you could 
possibly move around.  Good luck.
