Thank you one and all for your quick responses to my post on kaopectate and
that Lomotil didn't seem to be working. I am fine now after figuring out
what bothered me. It was an allergy to yeast that set me off. I should not
be eating bread with yeast in it. Foolish me.
Kaopectate is no longer the kaolin clay compound it was when I was a kid
(I was born in 1956). It is some other compound now.
My daughter gets kaolin from a homeopathic doctor. I would check the
ingredients in Kaopectate vis a vis the Immodium and Lomotil
Kaopectate is gluten-free according to the www.glutenfreedrugs.com list,
which I trust implicitly. I just contacted Steve, the pharmacist from the
children's hospital in Cleveland, who manages this list. I had contacted him
about something else.
This URL lists all the ingredients for kaopectate - active & inactive:

Lomotil is the only thing that works for me. If you are taking a generic
you should check with your pharmacist to be sure there is no gluten in it.
Have you tried Levsin? My daughter and I never travel without it.
Pepto Bismol is gluten free and works well. It will turn your stool black
I called the folks at Kaopectate several years ago and, at that time, it
was not gluten free
