Don, to answer your first question, yes, there was a problem with my mouse
dancing and moving across the screen which you have no control over.. I
even took a video of it, but when it hits the side of the screen it is still
dancing/vibrating and moving, it eventually sinks to the bottom when it
hits the side of the screen and stays there.
I change my pw cause I am always so afraid someone might get in my puter,
guess that's not such a good idea huh? Yes, it's a Windows 7 pw.. when you
log on after you have shut down then come back on.
Now, when I tried to do a repair, I was not asked to give a pw till after
the program started and into it a bit, so had to get out since my pw didn't
work.
I had made a password disk/flash drive disk at one time in case I couldn't
get past the sign on thing, but I wanted to try it and when I stuck it
into the port, it said it couldn't find it.. and it was on that flash.. so
figured I either did something wrong, or I didn't know what I was doing...
probably the latter. Therefore I never made a new one since that one didnt'
work cause it will ask you for you pw disk.
But since the repair didn't work, that's when I decided to a system
restore.
May I say thank you all for your advice, I certainly do appreciate those
of you who have written in. I intend to try one more time to make another
flash disk password to see if it works this time, but I followed the
directions before. And yes, this is a desktop computer. Harriet

In addition to Paul's excellent long-shot comments (try a space at the
beginning also), I'm wondering why you needed to change the password in
the
first place. Was there a problem before you tried to change it? (This
might
indicate a corruption in the system files).
Is this a Windows 7 password, or a bios password? (ie at what stage of the
boot process does it ask for the password---very early before Windows
starts to load, or after Windows has loaded?).
The reason I ask is that if it's a laptop ( you didn't say), when ordering
a Dell laptop, you can request a bios password to be inserted at the bios
(the theory being that this helps prevent theft). They may do it for
desktops too, I don't know.
If it's a bios password set at the factory, this can only be changed by
the
Dell factory, upon proof of ownership. I've no doubt they are also likely
to charge an arm and a leg for this service. I've no idea what would
happen
if a bios password were to fail thru corruption, but I guess the whole
computer would have to be returned to the Dell factory. Or maybe their
Dell
service reps might have a way of fixing such failure. It would be
interesting to know, even though it would be a very rare fault.
