Since this is AC[*], polarity doesn't enter into it. There are
only two basic possibilities:
1: Supply leads are on one side of the switch, and transformer leads
on the other. The switch works fine.
2: One supply lead and one transformer lead are on one side of the
switch, and the other leads on the other side. No current can flow
in either position.
[*] Note that if the machine is plugged in, a couple of these have
120v AC "household current" on them. Having the switch turned off
isn't sufficient -- you're working on that. I can testify that you
will see a big fat spark if one of these touches the case chassis;
that should trip the circuit breaker/fuse down the hall, or in the
basement....
