...And don't forget the issue of cost. Why does every other country in the
(what's left of) democratic world seem to not have the crushing problems
that we do in health care. The fact is that a little bit of socialism in
some specific directed areas has worked better than the mess we have here.
The Tea Baggers that are running in New York State have a solution. It is
to cut Medicaid services for the poor by 30%. Knowing that their target
groups (mentally handicapped and mentally ill people) have little ability to
fight back, Gubernatorial candidate Carl Paladino and his avid supporter
Erie County Executive Christopher Collins have advocated eliminating most
group home service for the aforementioned groups as well as all prescription
medication for such. This would probably just about do it--get Medicaid
costs under control, but it would also kill an estimated 50 thousand New
Yorkers.
This is the conservative solution--and this from the folks who tell us they
have the higher moral ground and a so-called 'culture of life!'

Harvey, you are partially right with very valid questions. Illegal Aliens
however are expressly excluded from Health Care coverage. The problem is,
that we are unwilling to let people, be they legal or illeagals die in the
streets. The burden of providing the care falls on the hospitals in the
poorest neighborhoods. Which hospitals are closing? Right, the ones in the
poorest neighborhoods, where their services are the most needed.
