Hi Rick:

Besides checking all the connections thereauly, what sort of tuning  
aid are you using, if at all?
Make sure that both rig and amp are in the CW position and if your  
using the LDG TW-1, as I do, insure that the tone mode is activated  
for the forward power. When you key your key, you should hear the  
meter and the tones increase or decrease in pitch as you adjust your  
tune control.
I don't use any third party units to go between my 940 and sb-220. I  
have a home brewed foot switch to key the amp.
I think this works extremely well cause it acts like a stby switch. (HI)
Here is my tune up procedure:
1. TS940SAT in CW on desired band, SB220 in CW/Tune on same band.
2. With the amp running, I tune my antenna with 100w using a Heathkit  
SA-2040 manual antenna tuner, with the LDG TW-1 in the SWR tone mode.  
Lowest Pitch equals 1.0 to 1.
3. With my TS-940sat's drive reduce to 10W, again using my TW-1 to get  
the reading.
4. Engaging the amp with the footswitch, activating my Keyer, I adjust  
the Tune control for the highest pitch. Yes the tw-1 is in the fwdpwr  
tone mode. I then unkey. Key again, this time adjusting the load  
control until yet a higher pitch is possible. Take a reading. 10=170.
5. Adjusting my TS-940SAT's drive to 100W with out the amp keyed, Key  
the amp and keyer, adjusting the load control once more for the  
highest pitch. 100=1000.
6. Switch both rigs to SSB, if that's my operating choice, key the amp  
and keyer, 100=1320. Reduce to about 75, 75=1000SSB.
Note: each keydown step takes no more than 10 seconds.
