Is there an Assistive Technology assessment team in your area? It
sounds like you are looking for an AT Access assessment, to see how best
your daughter can access both the computer and the curriculum content.
There is speech to text software out there that can be purchased (Speak
Q, Dragon Naturally Speaking, Via Voice) and scan and read systems such
as Wynn Wizard and Kurzweil that are almost all-inclusive programs that
offer a wide variety of software support such as text to speech, talking
dictionaries, talking word prediction, reading the web and additional
reading features that you may want to be considering.

Hopefully there is someone in your area as an assessment person or team
that you can access.

Deb

Subject: Adaptive Technology?

My 9 year old daughter=2C Mary now needs voice recognition software and
har=
dware for school. The nueropsychologist wants us to focus on Mary's
verba=
l and auditory strengths and not push hand writing or reading. He
stated t=
hat yes she can read and write=2C but it is making her work way to hard
and=
tecnology like books on tape=2C CD-roms and DVD's would help her learn
mor=
effiicently due to the area of her brain damage. The testing on all
are=
as that The Elks Hospital did puts Mary at an average of 6 years old
physic=
ally and mentally and the school does not get it cramming the 3 r's down
he=
r throat. The Elks say Mary needs to learn to function not how to
please t=
he school system. So where do I look for the technology to educate a
chil=
d either through school or at home who has right side weakness=2C major
anx=
iety and cognitive problems=2C oh and dyslexia!

Thanks=2C
