I want to recommend a wonderful restaurant in downtown Nashua, NH. I've
eaten at the Black Orchid twice. The first time, a good friend (who is
very conscious of my difficulties eating out and very caringly makes
sure I am accommodated for "girls' nights out") called ahead and asked
if they had GF dessert for me. The restaurant offered to make me a
flourless chocolate cake, which was out of this world. Last night, I
ate out with my husband and other friends. My husband called ahead to
make sure they could serve me a full dinner. They were pleased to help
me. When I arrived, the waitress showed me everything on the menu I
could eat, what they could and could not modify for me. Because we
called in advance, they even set aside some rice for me, in case I
decided to order that. The evening's rice was to contain a broth that
would have been unsafe for me. (I actually didn't order rice, but was
thrilled that they had thought to do that.) My options on the menu
were almost overwhelming to me. I very rarely have access to just about
a whole menu of food and I'm sure you can all identify with that! There
were very few things that Black Orchid couldn't adjust for me. The
waitress even pointed out the fried calamari made without wheat that I
plan to try next time...
I am very hopeful that eating is about to get much easier for us after
discovering Betty Crocker's GF mixes this week and now the Black
Orchid. It seems that people are so much more aware of Celiac than they
were when I was diagnosed 7 years ago.
Thank you to everyone who sent me positive responses about my Betty
Crocker posting. Happy eating everyone!
