The issue isn't the actual amount of space. The issue is the status line
reporting incorrect information in Word 2003. I've seen this before.

Subject: [VICUG-L] line-spacing in Word 2003
Hi, everyone.
Just today I noticed a new phenomenon in Word 2003 that both
surprises and concerns me. Normally, Word defaults to single-space;
and if I don't think to change the line-spacing to double before
creating a document, I'll highlight the whole document with ctrl-a
and then do ctrl-2; and this usually does the trick. When my
line-spacing changes from single to double, the length of my document
naturally changes, too, so that a document that's one page in length
will change to two. Well, just today, I've noticed that even after
changing my line-spacing to double, the length of my document doesn't
seem to change. When I do an ins-f in JAWS 10, it tells me that my
file is double-spaced; and when I check it with the Optacon, it
appears to be double-spaced. But how come the length of my document
doesn't appear to change, as indicated by Word's status line? I find
this very strange.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts as to what may be going on.
Rachel
