Earlier today I was looking at Quicken updates and saw that MS had a related "fix" that was for XP SP2 with IE7. It said if this patch was installed, that IE6 may cease to function (leave it to Microsoft). Look at this: MS07-069 - addresses a vulnerability in Internet Explorer (KB 942615) (search on 942615 on http://www.microsoft.com/protect/computer/updates/bulletins/200712.mspx )
and see if it relates to your problem. It is an update you don't need if you are using IE6. I would avoid XP SP3, Vista, and IE7 if at all possible. XP3 doesn't offer you anything anyway; it's primary purpose (like VISTA) is to give MS and other vendors better remote access to mess with and control your PC (along with Windows "LIVE" anything, which I would avoid like the plague).

Subject: [PCBUILD] Internet Explorer in Windows XP sarvice pack 2
With a brand new Dell Inspiron 530----2 gb ram, 250 gb
harddrive, Internet Explorer, and roadrunner e-mail, Suddenly
, yesterday Internet Explorer would not open any webpages,
and the messages say "Page cannot be displayed. "
A Dell tech tried to open in Safe mode, also Installed
Service pack 3,, shut down firewall, installed I E- 7, on
Firefox, ran Windows File Protection ,did a system restore,
said the installed I E -6 was corrupt, uninstalled it and
reinstalled it , removed Win XP service pac 3, all no good to
get I E to open webpages.
Afier over two hours of "trying " the tech said I'd have to
live with it, or wipe the harddrive and start all over and it
MIGHT fix it.
Surely some of you knowledgeable subscribers know a solution
and/or a fix for this problem.
I've also tried several of the suggestions on Google, and
nothing fixed it yet.
Please help this old man with this problem.
THANKS
