Hello Friends,
A clip of the memorial tribute for Ya Amie Joof will be shown today on WYOU, the African Experience (show is at 4:30 PM). Ya Amie Joof was an attorney, social worker, and activist from The Gambia who passed away in August from cancer. She lived for many years in the Chicago area was committed to serving the community there and elsewhere. She was a Pan-Africanist, an advocate (she did mostly immigration law and most of her work was done pro-bono), and an extremely kind and generous person. She visited Madison many times and had clients here.
The memorial lasted over 2 hours and since the show is 1 hour, only the first part will be shown today. The memorial was unique and amazing and it highlighted the various aspects of her life; most people who attended said they were inspired by her many accomplishments. There will be a subsequent show with a round table discussion and tribute to her, at which time, the remainder of the memorial will be shown.
If you miss the show, you can get it online by going to WYOU.org. Have a great day!
Rakina
