Thanks to all who responded and there were many of you who related horror stories of minimal contamination and violence of the reaction. There was
= a
resounding yes to my question. One related cooking her pasta in a a teflan pot
used for regular pasta and becoming acutely ill; one spoke of her requiring her husband to brush and wash before kissing her if he had consumed
gluten
because of her violent reactions to gluten. In summary it was suggested to ask that only rice crackers be brought to gathering by non Celicacs
and for t= he Celiac to be vigilant and never, never , never use a dip
that has been pl= aced in a communal area. Take a plate and serve your
hummus or whatever and keep= it with you. Some suggested that one should
bring all of one's food to po= tluck suppers as contamination is so
likely. Sensitivity appears to be greate= r as one becomes gluten free.
I was diagnosed 23 years ago. Happy New Year and
thanks for all of your responses. I am now on the mend although some related that recovery can last 2 to 6 weeks. Some day I will relate my
reaction t= o barium after having a barium swallow. My recovery took 4
weeks.
