Beth, Ken and Kyle,

My in-laws are "snowbirds" in Arizona (AZ). The one's that bring their own
RV's like My IL's contribute only to the tax base through sales tax on
purchases. I'd bet that the number who get speeding tickets and other
traffic is also pretty small. My FIL had major heart surgery a couple of
years ago while he was in AZ. I haven't talked to them about their stand on
universal health coverage, but if they hadn't had Medicare, I'm pretty sure
that they'd have been pretty well wiped out. About 6 and 8 years ago, I had
my gallbladder and appendix out, and was in the hospital for about 24 hours
each time. The bill for each surgery and hospital stay was over $10,000.

My nieces are part of the "Me" generation, but do a really good job of
thinking for themselves and thinking of their others. My older niece is in
college now, and is planning on going into medical research, focusing on
neurology.

The Humphrey quote is IMHO, very true.and was at the base of FDR's New Deal
and LBJ's Great Society. When Humphrey ran for President in '68 (after LBJ
decided not to run for re-election), I think he was defeated largely because
of a conservative backlash against LBJ's social policies, supplemented by a
fear that HHH wouldn't successfully conclude the war in Vietnam.
