Editorial - UDP - UK vs. Agenda 2011
The Gambia Daily publicises news and happenings and try to forge an alliance as well as being critical of the status quo, the opposition, the government and any public official, regardless whether we loose their audience. It should be our weakness as well as strength to take sides with victims and issues naturally as journalists. We are more sympathetic to Agenda 2011 as we believe the Gambian people are entitled to a say who represents them in parliament and Agenda 2011 provides that. UDP- UK's Suntou Touray's stance on giving Darboe the lead without any other substance in his proposal to the Gambian people, hopefully is not the stance of the UDP leadership in Banjul. Gambians are hopeful the UDP leadership exercise due diligence and gauge the political situation on the the ground. Agenda 2011, by its nature seems malleable to change as it provides an option or opportunity for dialogue Gambians to exercise their fundamental rights to determine who governs them. Forget about the presidency for a second and think about the parliamentary candidates and the benefits they will derive from re-election campaigning moons before the general elections. Darboe can still get the majority and lead the opposition.
