Howard:

I have never used an R7 but have had my R8 up for about 6 years and it works
superbly.
A bit tricky to get it tuned up,, in the initial instance, but as it has
half wave integral radials and is a half wave vertical, it ertainly
out-performs some of its quarter wave equivalents.

I am still hearing phantom cw in my head.  We used a Carolina windom and a 
r8 vertical.  I knew how well the windom did, but was very impressed with 
the r8.  I want one!!  If I am not planing to use 80 meters on the vertical,
