If the computer she's working with is also new, it may be set to
automatically toggle between or among several languages, most likely
English, Spanish, and French. If this is the case, she's probably got the
keyboard layout set to another language, and WindowsMail is trying to spell
check in that language.
there are two easy ways to check language. One is to check the placement of
the punctuation. Other languages put punctuation marks in different places.
For example, the quote for Spanish is at the 2, not next to the semicolon,
and the ñ is where the colon and semicolon are in English.
The other way is to have her go into Word and read the bottom line of the
window, where the line and page number are. The current language is also
there.
She can probably toggle back to English by pressing alt+shift. Have her try
the ones on the left first. Sometimes that makes a difference.
to turn this off automatically, she needs to go into the languages settings
in the control panel to disable languages other than English.
