Butch,
I have 2 high power tuners in the shack. A manual from Palstar and a MFJ
998 auto. The manual tuner is easy to tune with the tone function in the
LDG TW-1. The auto tuner of course does it automatically and if interfaced
to the rig with an optional cable, will put the rig into cw mode and set
the power to 5 watts before starting the tune cycle. When tuned, the
original mode and power settings are restored.
I would guess that the manual tuner is more efficient, with a large roller
inductor and 2 big caps, as opposed to the relay controlled auto tuner.
I've been happy with both, and would buy either one again, no problem.
