Lou,

Just so people won't get the wrong idea: I'm not using any of the TX
equalization settings in the 480. I'm using an MC-80 connected to a W2IHY
8-band equalizer. Despite your compliments of my audio, I've found that the
480 imposes severe limits on what you can do to improve the way it sounds.
The big problem is that you can only widen the TX filter to 2.4 KHz, which,
in my opinion, isn't nearly wide enough for good high fidelity audio. I
keep wishing there was a filter mod for the radio that would give me at
least a 3 KHz band width in transmit, but even with that, I suspect that the
mic preamp may be designed for fairly restricted audio. I can't prove this,
but I'd be interested to know if anyone knows whether my suspicions are
correct.

Steve
