Hi Rick, "Does that mean the qsyer won't work without a computer interface?"
Well, that _May be what it means, although as I said earlier, your ts50 may
already have an interface inside it and just need either a sirial or usb
matching cable to get it to your computer, or else a qsyer with appropriate
Kenwood cable.
Do you have someone who can see to read you all of the info on all of the
plugs and ports on the back and or sides of the rig?
If so, record or write down anything that sounds different than the normal
antenna, key jack, mic plug, phones jack, power input, etc. That's the
place to start to solve the mystery. Do you know if your friend ever used
the rig in connection with a computer?
Re the 430, and a computer interface, I don't think there was one intended
or made for that one, I'm not sure , but I have a friend who's very familiar
with them, and I'll try to find out for you.
As I say, I'm pretty sure that if your ts50 _doesn't have an interface,
either Kenwood or Piex, _Does have one, the Piex units I believe, sell for
around 80$s, at least they did for the if-10C, which was the unit needed for
the TS140 I had. I never got around to buying that interface, because there
was not even a hook up for an interface in my rig, and it would have been
pretty major to install one from scratch. .
I know that one must have the proper if10 interface for any Kenwood rig, and
there are several of them, A, B, C, D, and maybe others.
I believe you mentioned the IF-10D as being the one needed for yours. So
get some help in finding out what connections or connectors indeed you do
have on yours, and we'll go from there. You have two well respected rigs,
that can be made to work with some work arounds.

In case we have a worst case situation/senario,
and there's no computer interface available for either radio, For Sure, you
can get CW Frequency read out using the M Count a unit perfected and still
being built by

This little piece of gear, which in July 2007,
was available for under fifty dollars, runs either off a 9volt battery, or
5-14Vdc external power source, or both.
It will give frequency read out in CW for HF VHF, and UHF transmissions,
without being connected internally to the transmitter. Several folks on
this list both have and use this item, I am one of them, and it's a useable
piece of equipment. I emailed Chuck a few minutes ago to learn the status
of both he and the little units, and will advise as I hear further.
This kind of technology with developed dependence on old style listening,
counting turns of the main tuning dial, and lots more, will place you in
good stead. John Miller and all on this list will be of great help in your
endeavours. HTH, Danny.
