using software to do all the work copying CW and what not, in a contest is out right cheating by my book and like you mention makes it even worse and probably is why I don't contest.
DStar is dying out already, what very little life it ever had, spending money on that now is like investing in a company that's filed for bank ruptcy. Icom only put it out there in the first place as kind of a feeler to help with the commercial equipment and their commercial side is going another route now which is 100% not compatible with DStar, I don't see them keeping it going. This BTW, info is from an icom rep who was in a friend's shop recently selling them commercial gear, they got talking about the ham radio side too.
In response to your pontification:
I believe that Handi Hams has a TS-480 that members can operate via the =
Internet. =20
What will happen when someone uses their computer to operate a contest =
station located in one or even multiple countries? I'd like to have =
receivers located on different continents for the next DX contest.

John, how to you feel about the software that copies all the CW stations =
on a given band and lets you select the most needed multipliers?

Should people lose a license for linking d-Star repeaters? Using a =
d-Star dongle on a computer? =20

DSP is unfair, if you can't hear the signal by ear, you didn't make the =
contact. And on and on the argument goes
Bend with the winds of change, even if they make your antenna fall down.
