Given the way you describe the problem, I suggest you do a full virus
scan of your system.

Are you sure the files are actually being removed from the hard drive?
If it's plugged into another system are they actually gone?

Subject: [VICUG-L] Drive Files disappearing

Now, whenever I have any external drive plugged into my computer for
even a 
few minutes the files just disappear.  When I open the drive I hear,,
"No 
selected item."  How can I fix this problem permanently?
