Yes indeed. Word's language detection, coupled with JAWS language
switching capabilities is causing all manner of unexpected problems.
I'm seeing more and more of this kind of thing, and here in the
European Community with 29-30 countries, and as many languages, screen
readers are going bananas.

Unfortunately the design of Word is such that control of Styles and
such like is often taken over by Word itself.

Unless you have a specific need, it's best to turn off Language
Detection.

George.

Subject: Re: [VICUG-L] Jaws Speaking French in Word

Hi Sherry and all

I just sent this question to a list full of people who do JAWS in
multiple languages on purpose.

I have sometimes also had the problem but in my case there would be
some plausible reason JAWS might start reading in Spanish and no
reason it would continue doing that for lines and lines.

Consensus seems to be that this could be a bug in JAWS 9 at least.
When I get time maybe I will dig through the FS website for more info.
If you are sure you never care about detecting text in foreign
languages, one option is on the Ins V menus to scroll through until
you find Language Detect and just turn it off. I actually WANT
language detect on sometimes so I need plan but maybe this will help
for you.

Best

Subject: [VICUG-L] Jaws Speaking French in Word

Hello list,

I recently started having the problem
of Jaws speaking French while editting a document in Word.  It does
not speak French all the time.  It will suddently read a line in
French
and maybe the next several lines then revert to English.  I cannot
find any pattern as to when it starts.  I suppose there could be a
word in the line that might be French; the town of Naponee was in the
line
that started the problem20today.  Sometimes I can see no word in  the
line that could be interpreted as being French though.  I have changed
nothing in Word as far as settings.  .

As interesting as it is to hear Jaws
speaking French, my high school French is not good enough to
understand
what is being read.  Any ideas as to how I can stop this?  Thanks.

Regards,

Sherry Wells
