i've often wondered why modern radios still come with an RF receiver gain
reduction control?
For as long as i've used HF, i've never used the rf control, that is, i've
never seen the need to turn it down.
Though i suppose if you have a really high noise level on the low bands you
can use the rf gain to take away some of the noise and pull signals out.
Though they all come with dsp features that do that far better then tweaking
an RF knob.
and with AGC on board, your almost never going to get an over loaded front
end like with older rigs.
The old tube rigs i've had used the rf gain like a volume control and you
could tweak the AF knob and the RF knob together to obtain a better signal
on the receiver.
