Hi to all.
Yesterday after reading a message from this list, I went ahead and downloaded Internet Explorer 8 to my computer with Windows XP and JAWS 10. As the first response to the poster noted, IE8 has a lot going for it, including better security features and the abilities to translate and send web pages to an E-mail address or a blog without having to copy and paste--and all of this is accessible with JAWS 10 (I don't know about earlier versions--sorry).
On the minus side, there are three things I should mention (one of which has already been noted):
1) The JAWS control for reading the address bar (insert+a) does not work with IE8. However, as noted, there are several ways to get this information from JAWS that still are functional.
2) In the "Normal" size window, the address on the address bar (accessed by F6 in JAWS) is partially covered up. To read the full address from this line, I've had to maximize the window's size.
3) Finally, the source option under the view menu is improved with the addition of line numbers that show up in JAWS and a blank line between each line number. However, the "Find" feature (which does not use JAWS' "Find" here and is accessed by ctrl+f) has a particularly thorny problem--the "Ok" and "Cancel" buttons are no longer being read by JAWS, making the feature completely unuseable if you are looking for specific text in source code. Other than reading line-by-line, I know of no alternative method for finding this information.
Despite this flaw, IE8 is a welcome improvement over IE7.
