Twitter is an instant messenger basically.  It has a
slightly different social role than AIM or the like, and it
is used both on computers and on cell phones, but
essentially that's all it is, and instant messenger, text
based, designed for very short messages almost like a
conversation.

I read Peter's message about accessible software for Twitter
with great interest.  However, can I be totally dumb and ask
what Twitter is?  I keep hearing mention of it and wonder is
it just a website or a whole lot more.
