Hi Sherry and all

Interesting comments on the JAWS language detect feature.

More on setting Word documents specifically to be in English

Best

Dorene,

Sherry Wells is correct. If she has her language detection feature on,
Jaws
thinks it needs to pronounce things in French if it comes across a
certain
letter combination. When I write out knitting patterns, for example,
Jaws
starts pronouncing everything in Spanish as soon as I type "yo," an
abbreviation for "yarn over." The pronunciation goes back to English
after a
line or two of text that is obviously English, like "continue as
established
until work is 2 inches from cast-on edge."

Andre is correct. The best way to stop the problem is to turn language
detection off. He's already given you instructions for doing that
across the
board, which is the best way to stop the problem if she doesn't read
another
language.

For solutions that affect Word only, she can do the following:

EITHER

These steps turn language detection off in Word only.

1. Open any document in Word.

2. Go into the Jaws Verbosity menu with ins+v.

3. Arrow down to the Reading options.

4. Press the left arrow once to open the reading options.

5. Arrow down to language detection and tab through that dialog box to
turn
it off.

OR

These steps mark the specific document as being in English.

1. Open the document with the French pronunciation.

2. Highlight the entire text of the document with ctrl+a.

3. Hit alt+t, then the letter _l, to go to the Language submenu in Word.

4. Arrow to Set language and press enter.

5. Find English. Try arrowing up once. If it isn't there, hit the
letter _E
repeatedly till you hear the option you want.

6. Press enter. Now the document is officially English, and Jaws should
read
it accordingly.

Ciao
