400 million R: Working to end discrimination against disabled people
in the developing world
400 million R aims to bring the issue of disabled people's poverty and
social exclusion into the mainstream consciousness, raising awareness of
disability as a human rights issue and pressing for greater resources to be
committed to the inclusion of disabled people in all aspects of society. We
want to raise the profile of this issue so that it ranks alongside other
development priorities such as HIV/AIDS, children's rights, women's rights
and poverty. We will do this by running a high profile, thought-provoking,
dynamic campaign to engage support from grass roots to government level; by
building capacity amongst media agencies and NGOs in the developing world;
and by monitoring progress towards equality and inclusion.
