Geoff:
Diet can reduce symptoms related to AGEs on a temporary basis as well;
without high intensity training the physiological basis for processing
nutrients works poorly if at all. Pumping nutrients into a body otherwise
subjected to chronic degeneration due to sedate inactivity is like putting
premium fuel into a rusted out antique automobile - a waste of resources
downstream from incompetent maintenance/resource management.
As for bad diet being causal to individuals being unhealthy enough to not
want to train it's imperative to think in terms of whole systems. What's
more, abundant research published in the past 20 years demonstrates
arresting and reversing of a number of degenerative diseases mediated simply
by strength conditioning without dietary intervention. Obviously, the ideal
remedy is doing both.
I seriously doubt that processed supplements are ineffective simply because
the research supporting prevention and reversing glycation is based on their
use.
Stay strong,
