Their sodium needs are met through the flesh and blood that they eat." taken from:- http://www.sciencebuddies.org/science-fair-projects/project_ideas/HumBio_p026.shtml In other words, since humans ate mostly meats in palaeo times they didn't need salt, it seems that use of salt started in Neolithic times when people started eating grains(which, according to Sally Fallon needed salt).Plus, eating salt is mainly only a herbivore custom.
Re fat:- The Zero-Carb crowd, some of which is palaeo-oriented, do indeed recommend unlimited fat diets, and cite Taubes all the time to back up their claims.
