Amnesty International USA
Global Day of Action for the Gambia :
The Gambia is a country with an appalling history of human rights abuses. Citizens, in particular human rights defenders and journalists, are routinely subjected to human rights violations, such as unlawful arrests and detention, torture, unfair trials, harassment, assaults, death threats, and closures, making it extremely difficult to do their work. One such example is the case of journalist Ebrima Manneh, who has not been seen since his unlawful arrest on July 11, 2006.
On July 22, nationally known as 'Freedom Day' in the Gambia, thousands of activists from 12 different countries worldwide will demonstrate and speak out to raise awareness on the human rights concerns in Gambia during a Global Day of Action. This year on ‘Freedom Day’ we aim to show the lack of freedom in Gambia .
The international community must act now to condemn Gambia ’s appalling human rights record and must work to ensure that Gambia lives up to is international human rights obligations.
Join us for this Global Day of Action!!
