A female friend of 54 with lonstanding RA developed patches of an itchy, blistery rash on both legs (below knees) a month ago. I wondered if it could be DH.
She has more recently had a bad chest infection and developed a different sort of symmetrical rash across her nose and face and on both hands (the antibiotics she was taking for the chest infection were changed in case they were a cause). Her GP does not seem very concerned by either rash but I have suggested she is tested or referred asap to rule out lupus (SLE) also.
Anyone with experience of this? There is some clinical refs suggesting an association between RA and DH and also SLE.
Charlotte, Oxford, UK
NB Her RA is well controlled at present and the TNF drugs she has taken for some time are not thought to be involved with the rash.
