PPCPDL Condemns the Ghanaian Government for Deporting
Liberian Refugees

MADISON WI 03/26/08: The People to People Campaign for
Peace and Democracy in Liberia based in the United
States of America condemns the Ghanaian government for
arresting and deporting Liberian refugees in Ghana.
The Campaign will like to inform the general public
that last week insensitive Ghanaian leaders arrested
Liberian refugees for exercising their fundamental
right to protest their living condition in Ghana. The
Campaign is calling on the leaders of Ghana to respect
the mutual friendship existing between the two
countries. The Campaign will like to inform the
leaders of Ghana that it is the third time that
Ghanaian authorities have treated Liberians in such an
inhumane way and that Liberians will not settle for
it. The Campaign will like to inform the Ghanaian
leadership that there are Ghanaians in Liberia who
violate the law in Liberia and they are giving the
opportunity to seek legal redress instead of
deportation. The Campaign also is surprise at the
indiscriminate behavior of the leaders of Ghana in
arresting and deporting Liberian refugees when there
are enough diplomatic channels that could have been
used to resolve the refugee’s situation.

In the same token, the Campaign will like to ask the
Liberian government on why it reacted slowly to the
action of the Ghanaian Government with respect to the
inhumane treatment level against peace loving people
of Liberia. The government of Liberia must understand
that these people are in Ghana because of the 15 years
of civil war which existed in our country. They are
not in Ghana because they want to be there. The
Campaign is calling on the Liberian Government to
immediately begin the total and unconditional
repatriation of Liberians refugees residing in Ghana
in order to avoid a reoccurrence of such an ugly
situation.

The People to People Campaign will like to inform
their fellow Liberian refugees in Ghana that help is
on the way and that they are sorry for the way the
Kufour’s regime of Ghana has treated them. The
Campaign hopes that Liberians will have courage and
persevere thru this dark era in their lives until a
true leadership who care for them is elected in the
not too distance future. The Campaign will at the same
time thank ULAA thru it Social Services Commission led
by Dr. Mariah Seton for generating the needed help
that will rescue our brothers and sisters in Ghana.
The Campaign will close the release with motto of the
Progressive Alliance of Liberia (PAL) “In the Cause of
the People, the Struggle Continue!”
