I find the idea intriguing, but am put off by the man-made materials.  I wonder if soft leather moccasins, or something like the old Celtic bog shoe (basically, wrap a piece of leather around your foot and punch holes so you can lace it on) might not provide most of the barefoot experience and yet be made of closer-to-paleo materials as well.
