This is from someone on another list.
Cecily
Hi all prayer warriors.

I guess that by now all of you will be familiar with the goings on in
Mumbai, India, towards the end of last month and the beginning of this
month. I have been following events in India very closely and I am afraid to
have to report that I don't think that for a long time to come yet, we will
have heard of the end of the things that happened in Mumbai.

Before sharing the prayer request I want to share, I want to firstly
enlighten you with some of the political dynamic of what is going on in
India as this will help us, I believe, to pray more intelligently into the
situation.

India, said to be the world's biggest democracy, is on the verge of a
general election. Now there are only two real viable governments that can
come out of that election: there is the secular Indian Congress with its
socialists and the rest, which forms the present government in India, and
which as a rule, really cannot care a brass farthing about religion. Then
there is the Hindu orientated Barrathea Janata party or BJP for short.

Congress has been in power for most of India's independence except for a
little spell between 1999-2004 when the government of the day was lead by
the BJP. During that time, India and Pakistan lived in a virtual state of
war and given the fact that both countries were already nuclear powers at
the time, this did not bode well for peace in the sub-continent. The later
congress governments have at least tried talking to Pakistan which was never
done by the BJP.

There is tremendous anger among the Indian population over the way the
Congress handled the Mumbai situation and it is likely that come the
elections, this angry people will put the BJP in power. This is because our
bretheren, whether in India or Pakistan, don't know reason and when they get
angry, they just act.

Therefore, given an extreme Hindu orientated BJP which in its own right is
not the paragon of tollerance, being the government in Delhi, and given an
Islamic fundamentalist government in Islamabad, duly backed up by terrorists
over which they have no control anyway, and given the fact that both
countries are now nuclear powers, we have more than a fighting chance of
seeing a nuclear conflagration in the subcontinent.

More importantly though, we need to pray for the safety of our missionaries
in India. Our church has sent a missionary couple to India, but we need to
pray for all missionaries of the Gospel in India. If the BJP comes to power
in the next election, as I think it would, there will be even more
persecution of Christians and even those who serve India in a strategic
capacity, will not be spared. It is important that we pray for the safety of
our missionaries, especially in India, on a daily basis.

YBIC.

complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power." (Adapted
from Colossians 2:9-10 NKJV).
