Excellent instructions. I was just about to send the exact
steps, so, Doris should have no trouble. It doesn't matter
what screen reader you are using.

Subject: Re: [VICUG-L] turning on file extensions

I have XP Pro and use JFW, but I don't think that makes a
difference with these instructions.

1. Open up "My Documents" or any other folder.
2. Go to the menu bar and select Tools -> "Folder Options
..."
3. Tab over to the View tab. you can use control-tab.
4. Hit tab 3 times until you get into a list of options.
5. Arrow down until you hear "Hide extensions for known file
types."
6. Press the space bar to turn this option from on to off.
7. Tab over to the Apply button and press the space bar.
8. You should now be placed on the "Apply to all folders"
button. Press the space bar to apply the changes to all the
folders on your system.
9. Press the space bar on the Yes button to accept these
changes.

Now the next time you open a folder, you should see the file
extensions.
