John and Deborah,

  I tsried alt+P but got nothing; so I tried control+P and got the list of 
printers.

  Arrowing down to KESI Virtual Printer and pressing Enter, I found Kurzweil 
1000 recognizing the file I had open, which was already text.  So I gather 
one must first tell K1000 to open the "empty" file.pdf.
