Some listservers strip out the html or MIME content from an email, which
content is then sent as an attachment with the email. Far better that
you get a warning of a possibly viral message than that you open it and
get infected.

Subject: Re: [VICUG-L] cannot read attachment in outlook express
Hi Harry and All,
I have a similar problem. I Use Outlook Express, Windows XP Home, and
Jaws 10. Certain messages, many from a particular list, prompt Jaws to
announce, "Attachment." When I use the Jaws cursor to read the message
header, I discover that there's almost never an attachment. If it seems
important, I have sighted people look to confirm. I've had this problem
with previous versions of Jaws. Is Jaws misreading something?
Occasionally, I do find an attachment along with a note that says I
can't access my attachment because my virus checker has detected
something foul.
Not very helpful.
Ciao
