Besides the power capability, some of todays newer processors and
motherboards also have certain connector and power rail requirements. I
don't think the core i7 has anything too special, but at work I am using a
dual Xeon 5500 (Nehalem proc) motherboard and it requires a special
"skulltrail" certified power supply. This needs TWO 8 pin 12V SLI connectors
instead of the usual one. Each connector is supposed to come from a separate
power rail in the supply. I have been able to find only a small handful of
supplies that actually fit the requirement.
