2.4 Ghz interference can knock my linksys G network down. Devices such as cordless 2.4Ghz phones, wireless security camera, even a Panasonic Inverter microwave kills my connection ability. Possibility one of these devices my be causing the problem.
Try turning off (unplug) cordless phone or any other device that may be on the 2.4 Ghz frequency. If you live in apartment or condo, your neighbors may be causing conflicting 2.4Ghz signals.
 
Just a suggestion, it may not be the solution.

You didn't say if you were using wireless or a cable from a router. My Vista
wireless connection stops working frequently. The "Diagnose and
repair" tool has always got it running again. Try right clicking the
connection icon in the lower right part of your screen. Look for a
"Diagnose and repair" choice. You probably need to give more details
for more help.
