yep, sounds like there are a couple wires backwards.
Usually the audio hot and ground wires if put on backwards will cause this
terrible squealing issue.
Either that, you might have the common ground and the audio ground mixed
up....
i've also found this problem happens when the microphone cartridge is
disconnected or one of the wires has come off the element itself.
if the rx and ground wires are backwards, it'll likely still receive, but
might cause this issue when you key up.
If you can't figure it out, take a swing by ebay, and find a replacement
mike for your model or radio...they can usually be had for less then 15
bucks.
