When my PC running XP Pro, SP3 boots up, the monitor has a black screen with just the cursor appearing. The cursor can be moved around, but otherwise only responds with a beep when clicked. The only way I can get the regular Windows desktop to appear is to power off with the power button, then try powering on again. After 2 to 4 times doing this, the desktop eventually appears, but always with such large icons that I only see a few of them. I am able to click on the user icon, let everything load & then right click the desktop. At that time 'Properties' says Windows cannot adjust the desktop settings because another program is controlling it. That has to be NVIDIA since I can click the NVIDIA Control Panel that appears, wait a few seconds & then a normal appearing desktop appears. Does this indicate a bad video card? Any help will be appreciated.
