These are detailed individual experiences that did not lend themselves to summarizing.

I don't know for sure if there is a connection, but it sounds very logical that there is. I myself had panic attacks about 12 years before my diagnosis. I believe they were related to my undiagnosed CD. And I never had gut symptoms at all until my stomach got sooooo bad, that finally I had a lot of pain in my stomach after there was a lot of damage done, which is what led to my diagnosis. I will be very interested to see your summary on this. I'm going to be so curious if there are a lot of us out there who have had panic attacks.

Yes, it is very common. That person should be GF & take B12, sublingual would be best.

I suffered from them before I was diagnosed and they got better once I
            was on a GF diet.
It makes sense when you think about how nutritionally deprived your
            nervous system
is when you are still have the disease in an active mode.
Things got better once I got my levels up - was told that calcium
plays a big role in keeping you even
            Get her diagnosed!!!!

Our daughter is a biopsied celiac and I have a positive blood test for
it and a history of anxiety/panic attacks (my mother also did).
I have found that 500-1000mg of magnesium with 500-1000mg of inositol
(one of the B vitamins) at the first sign of an attack
can really make it much shorter and milder or even stop it dead in its
tracks. I use capsules because they dissolve quicker than pills.
Too much coffee and too little sleep can also trigger it for me.
Perhaps it is a deficiency of magnesium or one of the B vitamins.
            Hope this helps you

Before going gluten free after my celiac diagnoses I had panic attacks that usually caused fainting they were so severe. Gluten free for 5 years and no attacks in this time. Seems to be linked in my mind.

I am just sending you a link to a well written posting. The author does not cite their sources and chooses to remain anonymous, so you can not trace the origin of the information. But there is enough biochemical information within the article to support what it says. It is a very thorough article about panic attacks.

BTW celiac disease and panic attacks are linked and your cousin should be tested for celiac disease.

I got panic attacks often before I was diagnosed. Still get them (though rarely) if I accidentally ingest gluten. It was definitely a function of CD.

Panic attacks and anxiety are definitely associated with
celiac and gluten intolerance. They are specifically
mentioned in Dr. Rodney Ford's video on symptoms.
            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FtxfV49YYZM

I had anxiety issues for a while myself before being
diagnosed as gluten intolerant and was on Xanax. If I
accidentally get gluten now, one of my symptoms sometimes
is anxiety, as well as general agitation and restlessness.
It is my understanding that it's yet another issue related
to malabsorption and vitamin deficiencies. You are fairly
newly diagnosed and probably any deficiencies you had as a
result of celiac are not yet resolved. I still take
supplements 5 years after going GF and I believe I always
will have to take some or still have symptoms. I just don't
believe I'll ever be able to absorb enough of the necessary
vitamins and minerals on my own.

Here are some others comments along those lines on the
            Gluten Free Forum.

            And another of interest:

Remember that one doesn't have to
have a diagnosis of celiac to have serious symptoms from
gluten. There is gluten intolerance and there is gluten
            sensitivity.

Yeah, I used to have panic attacks before I quit gluten. I didn't realize
they were related to gluten till long after they stopped. And I know a
local woman who quit gluten because she read it could cause panic attacks
like she was having. Like so many people who aren't on a support group, she
thought she could eat Ezekiel bread, and one time when she wasn't doing well
at all we discussed this, as she was eating a lot more of it than she had
been. I always tell people to beware of gluten if they have panic attacks
or attacks of sleepiness. Donna

My deepest appreciation to everyone who responded. Without you, there would have been no material for a summary.
