Mr. Jaiteh this is really an interesting editorial from the Daily Observer.
I think they should be given credit for such a bold editorial. They hit hard
on several key points that are factual. It is great to see Observer take
such a stand though am mindful of their notorious stance on other issues.
While it is true that we should be trying brutal leaders like Charles Taylor
in our own African courts by our own judges and in our own terms, they did
not go far enough to condemn Taylor's heineos crimes against his own people.
This is what happens when a people cannot think and protect their own
people. Powers around the world who themselves committed so many crimes
against our people, can turn around and play double standards.
The fact though, I would rather have a double standard that gets rid of
dictators like Charles Taylor than have him linger around in power
destabilizing our subregion.
I wish their tongue slip into calling people like Charles Taylor AKA Jammeh
deserving such trials regardless of what courts they are tried.
For observer to have such an editorial, it must scare the hell out of them
and it is probably a no repeat. As we say in Mandinka "Nee yeh Ninsiringo
Bulla, Akaata Ah Baah leeyah" (When you let go of a calf, it runs to its
mother). This one might as well have been a swipe at Jammeh. We will see the
end of the GM there now when it leaks..
