Ok, so following my response to Dan's comments,, I did look up the 
Logitech k320 on both Amazon with 28 user reviews and 16 such overviews on 
Newegg.com.  Turns out, that the likely cause of Harry's non-responsive 
keyboard is that there is a switch to turn the kb on and off to save 
battery life and to prevent accidental use when not desired.
I have this switch on one of my Logitech cordless kbs, and I find this 
very useful.
Another nice feature, which seems standard on Logitech kbs, is that there 
are keys dedicated to raising lowering and muting volume.  Generally, 
these are found in the row above the function keys.
