Several possibilities:

(1)  Did you sync the keyboard with the usb receiver?  This is usually 
done by pressing one or more buttons on one or both of the components 
allowing them to handshake.

(2)  If the above fails, make certain that the batteries are good.

(3)  If the 2 above fail, [erhaps the kb is too far away from the 
receiver.
